Ouat Media named exclusive worldwide distributor of select shortdocumentaries from The New Yorker

For Immediate Release
Toronto, ON – April 20, 2023 – Ouat Media, the Toronto-based distribution and sales company
specializing in short films, has entered into agreement with Condé Nast Entertainment to
become the exclusive worldwide distributor of select short documentaries produced by The New
Yorker. Directed by both emerging and renowned filmmakers, the films in The New Yorker
Documentary series offer uncommon perspectives on issues that matter to us now.
The partnership begins with a slate that includes five original non-scripted short films:
● Liturgy of Anti-tank Obstacles (dir. Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk)
● You’ll Be Happier (dir. Daniel Lombroso)
● Nina & Irena (dir. Daniel Lombroso)
● I Did Not Want to Make a War Film (dir. Nadia Parfan)
● Goodbye, Morganza (dir. Devon Blackwell)
Ouat Media will bring this slate to the 2023 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film
Festival, taking place in Toronto from April 27th through May 7th. Hot Docs is North America’s
largest documentary festival, conference, and market, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

Yorker:

New Yorker Documentary to new audiences around the world.”
More about The New Yorker Documentary originals:
Liturgy of Anti-tank Obstacles (dir. Dmytro Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk)
In western Ukraine, sculptors who used to make religious statues are retraining for
different skills. They now build anti-tank obstacles to help fend off the Russian invasion.
Festival selections for this title include 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, 2023
Sundance Film Festival, and 2023 Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.
You’ll Be Happier (dir. Daniel Lombroso)
Jennifer feels that she hasn’t achieved “true beauty” despite multiple cosmetic surgeries.
Now that she’s getting a Brazilian butt lift, a high-risk procedure and viral trend, will she
finally be content?
Festival selections for this title include the 2022 Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival,
2023 Santa Barbara International Film Festival, and 2023 AmDocs.
Nina & Irena (dir. Daniel Lombroso)
Ahead of her 90th birthday, a grandmother reveals to her grandson the painful story of
her sister’s disappearance during the Holocaust and the survivor’s guilt she carries to
this day.
Festival selections for this title include 2023 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, 2023
Sonoma International Film Festival (Winner of the McNeely Audience Award for Best
Short Film), and 2023 AmDocs.
I Did Not Want to Make a War Film (dir. Nadia Parfan)
In the weeks following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the filmmaker Nadia Parfan returns
home to Kyiv after traveling abroad. There, she finds neighbours and family adapting to
their new wartime reality. Her film provides a window into the everyday lives of
Ukrainians, for whom refusing to give up home is an act of resistance.
Festival selections for this title include 2023 Visions du Réel and 2023 Hot Docs.
Goodbye, Morganza (dir. Devon Blackwell)
This intimate, archive-driven documentary examines a property dispute that led to one
family’s displacement from the home they had owned since 1892. Today, their youngest
daughter is left to pick up the pieces—all of which fit within two storage units.
The world premiere for this title is soon to be announced.
