Based in Toronto, Ouat Media specializes in the distribution and worldwide sales of short films, with a particular focus on titles by the industry’s rising stars premiering at the world’s leading film festivals. The Distribution Coordinator position offers a hybrid work arrangement, combining remote work with at least one in-office day each week. The role requires a weekly commitment of up to 20 hours.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

 

  • Coordinate all aspects of the content acquisitions process, asset and catalogue management
  • Support the sales process including business affairs and assets delivery
  • Coordinate all aspects of film royalty reporting
  • Manage updates to Ouat Media’s website, social media accounts and public listings
  • Support marketing initiatives including regular industry newsletters
  • Provide administrative support as required
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 1-3 years experience in film or broadcast industry
  • University degree in film, broadcast or business administration or equivalent
  • Strong communication skills
  • Highly organized
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and self-directed professional
  • A passion for film and an interest in supporting emerging talent in the industry

  • What you bring:
  • One or more year(s) of experience in digital news writing and video production
    Strong editorial judgement and decision-making skills
    Excellent spelling, grammar, and organizational skills
    Knowledge of SEO best practices
    Skills in Canva, Adobe Premiere Pro, WordPress, and social media tools
    Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends
    Proficient in CP Style
    Journalism diploma or equivalent relevant experience

Channel Zero Inc. (CHZ) has a career opportunity for a part-time Master Control Operator at our Toronto office in The Junction (Keele & Dundas).

 

Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor outgoing signals and ensure integrity of all channels
  • Prepare, import and maintain schedules to automations
  • Make revisions to program schedules as directed by the Programming, Production and/or Traffic Departments
  • Load and ensure accuracy of program schedules, and make changes as necessary
  • Prepare all programming, commercial and promotional content for air/play-out, including encoding, downloading and transcoding media
  • Review, segment and ensure technical quality, accuracy and completeness of all media
  • Basic editing tasks using Final Cut Pro
  • Setup, receive and record multiple incoming signals (i.e. satellite, fibre, adjacent systems, etc.) 
  • Work closely with the Engineering department to ensure the functionality of all equipment and to perform basic equipment maintenance, 
  • React promptly to technical issues, and advise appropriate personnel in a timely manner
  • Complete daily reports on Master Control operations
  • Prepare and maintain VOD content for BDUs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

The ideal candidate will possess:   

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines 
  • Excellent multitasking skills and great attention to detail
  • Technical ability to perform basic troubleshooting of both standard and high definition broadcast video/audio signals
  • Ability to ingest and edit content as well as basic operation of production switcher for live cut-ins
  • Ability to work with multiple platforms (Windows 64-bit systems XP, Vista, 7 and Mac OSX, Leopard) and to map drives and use networks
  • Willing and enthusiastic about learning new technologies
  • Must be able to do shift work including overnights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must work well in team environment at the same time work well under minimal supervision
  • Relevant experience in a Master Control facility will be a definite asset

  • Provide total cost of ownership and impact analysis for planned upgrades
  • Oversee the technical infrastructure on a day to day basis
  • Oversee Transmitter & Maintenance Technician staff workflow

  • Strong communication with News programming and News Operation teams and the Senior Management on all issues affecting the technical infrastructure of the Technology Operations department.
  • Deliver exceptional and quality service to all users of technology
  • Provide critical problem solving, sound decision making and strategic architectural planning, purchasing and implementation
  • Maintain excellent communication and relationships with management
  • Demonstrate sound leadership skills including the ability to motivate and lead others when working under pressure
  • Mentor and provide feedback to subordinates through informal and formal processes
  • Effectively troubleshoot and problem solve hardware and software issues for timely resolution
  • Liaise with outside vendors and technical support in a professional manner
  • Project manage the planning and implementation of Technology Operations Department projects

Key Qualifications:

 

  • Dedication and commitment to quality and exceptional service delivery
  • A successful five year history of supporting a technical infrastructure and a proven ability to handle day to day needs of a small to medium sized office, supporting both technical and non-technical employees
  • Excellent problem solving, sound decision making and strategic architectural planning, purchasing and implementation capabilities
  • Excellent communication, relationship management and reasoning skills
  • Practical knowledge of Linux (3 + years), Email Servers (3 + years), and VOIP (1 year or more with Asterisk); Server Systems, Desktop Systems, Macs, Switches, Firewalls and Network Attached Storage
  • Experience in the broadcast industry will be a definite asset

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and troubleshoot satellite transmissions, multiplexed signals and automation system operations for multiple broadcast streams and High-Definition channels
  • Effectively communicate with manager, master control operators, vendors, clients and management on all issues affecting the transmission of channels
  • Troubleshoot and maintain various Broadcast servers, computer servers, and Non-linear editing systems used in Digital media workflows
  • Troubleshoot and repair of traditional broadcast equipment such as video, master control switchers, routing switchers, and supporting infrastructure
  • Assist in the installation and commissioning of new facilities and/or addition or modification of existing facilities
  • Keep manager informed on all repairs and maintenance issues or other matters affecting operations
  • Update and maintain drawings and create new ones for assigned projects
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance of computer systems and networks
  • Provide support of Master Control operations
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Key Qualifications:  

  • Broadcast Engineering Diploma/Degree or relevant experience in a broadcast engineering capacity
  • Ability to work under pressure, make sound decisions and find effective solutions
  • Competent technical ability to perform basic troubleshooting of both standard and high definition broadcast video/audio signals, with sound understanding of a variety of automation systems and video path flow
  • Ability to work with multiple platforms (Linux, Windows 64-bit systems and Mac OSX) troubleshoot issues and test updates
  • Excellent multitasking skills and great attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to problem solve
  • Willing and enthusiastic about learning new technologies
