THREE KEENINGS by Oliver McGoldrick Wins Tiernan McBride Award for ‘Best
Short Drama’ at Oscar-Qualifying Galway Film Fleadh 2025
NEW YORK (July 16, 2025) – Three Keenings (UK/IRELAND/USA), the debut short film written and
directed by Oliver McGoldrick has won the Tiernan McBride Award for ‘Best Short Drama’ at the
Galway Film Fleadh, an Academy Award-qualifying festival. The win officially places the film on the
Academy Awards longlist.
Starring Seamus O’Hara (An Irish Goodbye, House of Guinness) the film was produced by
McGoldrick alongside Natalie Remplakowski (Canada), Chloe Langton (UK) and Cade Featherstone
(UK). It premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival (Orizzonti Short Film International
Competition) and had its North American Premiere at Palm Springs ShortFest. The film has been
acquired by Canal+ and is also currently featured on Aer Lingus flights.
Three Keenings follows a struggling actor who finds himself in the unconventional role of a
professional mourner. As he tours the Northern Irish countryside, his mask of apathy begins to slip
amongst the humour and heartache of the local funeral circuit.
Oliver McGoldrick grew up in the countryside outside Belfast in County Down and graduated from
the University of Edinburgh Medical School, working as a doctor in Emergency Medicine before
earning his MFA at NYU Tisch. He now splits his time between New York City and Northern Ireland.
He is a BAFTA North America Scholar and part of the 2024 Film at Lincoln Center Artists Academy
at the New York Film Festival.
Oliver McGoldrick’s debut short was developed as part of his studies at the NYU Tisch Graduate
Film Program with cinematographer, Gianna Badiali (Switzerland) based in NYC, production
designer Marianne Auvinet-Gould (UK/France) and Canadian producer Natalie Remplakowski of
Citrine Productions (Toronto/New York).
The film features an ensemble cast of celebrated Northern Irish talent including Sean Kearns, Carol
Moore, Caitriona Hinds, Niall Cusack and Olivia Nash.
Northern Irish crew include producer Chloe Langton (UK), Edel McCormick serving as 1st AD,
costume designer Katie Ireland (UK), production designer Myles Thompson (UK) and hair &
make-up artist Anna Knight (UK).
Oliver’s next short film, Jackie, executive produced by Spike Lee and produced by Charlie Silver
(UK), will shoot in Belfast in September 2025. He is also in development on his debut feature
Barnyard, also set in Northern Ireland produced by Natalie Remplakowski.
Three Keenings is represented by Ouat Media (Toronto) for international sales, and by Lights On
Films (Italy) for festival distribution. O’Hara is represented by Lou Coulson Associates.
