Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the anchor, producer, assignment editor, digital lead and other news team members to develop and determine what stories and content will be featured in the show and across all platforms
  • Source and create at least one segment/story per day, write scripts and other show elements in conjunction with the anchor and others, while efficiently and effectively communicating across the newsroom
  • Follow breaking/developing trends and trending news
  • Initiate ideas for stories and coverage, including for the integration of content on-air, online, and through social media for Trending Now and other news products as required
  • Posting segments and highlights to social media
  • Develop story ideas for inclusion across platforms
  • Take part in the Trending Now podcast
  • Monitor wires and social media for news
  • Develop story ideas and contacts
  • Other related duties (such as specials and other event programming) as assigned 

 

Qualifications

  • Several years of experience as a television news reporter is preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Creative and progressive writing skills
  • In depth knowledge of, and interest in, all news, current affairs and pop culture
  • Proven editorial news judgment with high journalistic standards
  • Proficiency in ENPS and VizRT would be considered an asset
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro would be considered an asset
  • Superior interviewing, writing, spelling, and grammar skills  
  • Possess a demonstrable history of working in various social media platforms  
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
